Rose flowers

We had a lot of flowering plants and ornamental plants around our house in a suburb of Trivandrum city, Kerala, where I grew up as a child. But mostly I liked the rose. I used to watch the new buds growing up and bloom into beautiful flowers. Then no other flower attracted me as much as the rose.

Later, when I shifted to New Delhi for continuing my education, I used to visit gardens and parks with my friends. There too, whenever I came across rose flowers, I used to watch with amazement.

For the first time I came across a very large variety of roses in the Mogul Gardens, the garden of the President of India. I was captivated by the various colors of the flowers, their sizes, forms, and funny-sounding names. The plants had their names tagged to them including their botanical names. Later, when I bought a flat and settled down in Delhi, I bought a few potted plants that could be kept in my terrace. Maybe, because of my special liking for roses, I bought a few rose plants too. Then it became a habit to tend to the plants, watch them grow and flower.

Red rose bud that is about to bloomThough I click photos occasionally, I never bothered to photograph the rose flowers. However, while surfing for images that could be used for some of the sites that I helped to design for others, I collected some nice photos of roses. So, I present here some such images that are stored in my hard disk. I confess, as I did not get their names then, when the photos were collected, I do not know their names.
What’s in a name?
That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet
- William Shakespeare, in ‘Romeo and Juliet’
Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose
- Gertrude Stein, in ‘Sacred Emily’)

Similarly the text that may follow in my posts about roses is also collected and edited from various sources, including books. So the images and text are not properly linked, though many of you may identify them by name. Please CLICK on the photos for the enlarged view. Your valuable comments will be highly appreciated.

This is my first post here. I am a Jack of all arts, master of none! So I do not have any specific topic for this site. I may post whatever catches my fancy, as the day passes. For today, I present a nice photo of J.Lo.

Jennifer Lopez pictureJennifer Lopez is one of the celebrities who was admired by me for a variety of reasons. She topped image searches last week after appearing on the cover of People Magazine, introducing her newborn twins, Emma and Max. I came across over 450 high-resolution Jennifer Lopez pictures that can be used as desktop computer desktop wallpapers.
